CSTAR Launch May 2010


Professor Leslie Daly, Chairman of CSTAR welcomed over 100 invited guests to a seminar and reception for CSTAR in Newman House, St Stephen’s Green on the evening of Tuesday May 25th.

Funded by the Health Research Board, CSTAR opened for business on 1st September 2009 with offices in Dublin and Limerick, CSTAR provides advice, consultancy, training and education in the methodological aspects of health research. Described by Ian Graham, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in TCD and Consultant Cardiologist in the AMNCH as “An excellent resource that is long overdue", to date the Centre has worked with a high number of projects in many areas, including clinical and health services research, epidemiology, biomedical research and pharmaceutical science.

CSTAR was founded by a group of academic/health researchers from UCD, TCD, NUIG and UL and has support from a number of other institutions. CSTAR is led by Leslie Daly, Professor of Epidemiology and Biomedical Statistics in the School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Population Sciences in UCD. CSTAR Director, Dr. Gloria Crispino O’Connell, said of the Centre "Our aim is to enhance the quality of health research by becoming an integral part of the research community and by collaborating with national and international organizations in building a strong, stable and coordinated infrastructure that supports health research in Ireland.”
